How Sydney became Shitney, a story about Pokies and Light Rail

Sydney Harbour is one of the most beautiful places in the world. Those sweeping, white waves of the Opera House juxtaposed with bright skies and the bluest water you have ever seen. The Sydney Harbour Bridge is the crown of the harbour, sitting proudly atop passages of expensive yachts and cruise liners, and linking one city centre to another. Yet Sydney Harbour is an iconic site reserved for tourists, hospitality workers and the rich and famous. It is a cunning disguise to divert attention from the shit fight Sydney has become with its multitude of social problems and forever haemorrhaging main roads. The question begs, how has Sydney become Shitney?

An Australian Contractor and Advice for Working in Sydney

I recently had the pleasure to meet with an Australian contractor who is currently working in Sydney. Tom is a self-described perennial student of love, life, death and all of life’s lessons. He grew up in rural NSW before moving to the big city and becoming successful in the ICT industry. He also has a reputation for being (slightly) enigmatic. Sydney looks like a dream destination in glossy postcards, however speaking with Tom convinced me that it could actually be a nice place to work too! I mean, Tom is probably the only person in the world who admits to liking recruiters so that’s gotta be something. Please read on to hear more of Tom’s story as well as the real life view on working as an Australian contractor.
